An Essex District Council are looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Planning Enforcement Officer to join their Development Management team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting the character of the district and ensuring development takes place in line with planning legislation and policy. The Role As a Planning Enforcement Officer, you will investigate and manage a varied caseload of alleged breaches of planning control. You’ll work closely with colleagues, residents, developers, and elected members to resolve issues effectively, proportionately, and in the public interest. Key responsibilities include: Investigating complaints and monitoring potential breaches of planning control Carrying out site visits and gathering evidence to support enforcement action Assessing breaches and recommending appropriate courses of action in line with legislation and local policy Preparing and serving enforcement notices, breach of condition notices, planning contravention notices, and other formal actions Managing appeals and assisting with prosecutions where necessary Maintaining accurate records and providing clear written and verbal updates to stakeholders Working collaboratively with planning officers, legal teams, and other council departments Contract & Working Arrangements Rate: £40 per hour Contract Length: 3–6 months Working Pattern: Hybrid working arrangement (combination of remote working and on-site visits/office presence as required) If this role is of interest, please submit your CV on Planning Jobs, to Michael.adeney@vividresourcing.com or call 0161 470 5506.
