Casual Cultural Talk Speaker From 20 per talk Casual dependent on requests Casual Mainly school based. Office based at Hardman Centre, Hardman Street, Stockport, SK3 0BJ. Interviews taking place at the Open Day on Wednesday 23rd July 2025 - please attend if you are interested in the role At The Hardman Centre, Hardman Street, Stockport, SK3 0BJ Induction: Please note you must be available to attend all dates 2nd, 3rd & 4th September 10am 2.30pm Your Role The Ethnic Diversity Service provides cultural talks in schools to help promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils. We are looking for people from different cultural backgrounds and faiths to deliver talks and cultural activities in schools on a casual basis. We are looking for people who are confident in public speaking, who can plan, develop and deliver presentations and creative activities on their culture or religion in a school assembly or in a classroom setting. We are interested in individuals that have knowledge on Hindu, Jewish, Chinese, Japanese, and Pakistani communities. Our goal is to celebrate and promote variety of cultures through inclusive, hands-on experience. We are especially interested in individuals who can lead or facilitate engaging activities such as: Arts and crafts from varied cultures Cultural dances Traditional movement practices such as Tai Chi About You Ideally candidates will have some experience working with children, be able to deliver engaging presentations and activities in a classroom or school assembly, be creative, and be passionate about sharing their culture and/or faith. A team-player with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, you will be a clear communicator who is approachable and responsive. You will need to be highly organised, proactive and able to work independently. The appointment of successful applicants will be subject to satisfactory clearance by the Disclosure and Barring Service and must be able to provide evidence of the Right to Work in the UK. About Us Stockport s Ethnic Diversity Service is a specialist service which provides a wide range of support for schools and children learning and using English as an Additional Language (EAL). We also promote equality and diversity and have strong ties to Stockport Interpreting Unit. Our team of experienced and specialist qualified teachers work in partnership with schools to strengthen EAL provision. We provide strategic advice alongside practical teaching and learning strategies. In addition to our specialist teachers, we have a large bank of casual Bilingual Assistants, giving schools access to a multitude of languages to support their children. As part of your Disclosure and Barring Service application you will be expected to register with the Update Service which enables your employer or future employers to carry out an online Status check of your DBS certificate. This removes the requirement to have and pay for another full DBS check, and is a condition of working as a casual in this role. You must sign up with the Update Service within 30 days of receiving your DBS clearance being issued. The cost for annual subscription is 13 which you will be expected to pay. Stockport Council holds a Visa sponsorship licence but this can only be used for certain roles and this campaign does not qualify.
