Avalon Planning & Heritage are excited to be recruiting for a new Town Planner to join our Exeter or Plymouth teams, to help us deliver our busy and growing workload.
Based in our head office in Exeter or our Plymouth office, you’ll play an important role within a talented team of planning, heritage and archaeology consultants with diverse experience. Working on projects ranging from agricultural diversifications to major mixed‑used developments, creative regeneration schemes to community‑led enterprises.
With a strong track record of providing commercially‑aware planning advice, you’ll already be confident in providing constructive and knowledgeable general planning advice. You’ll be building your experience in helping guiding clients to constructively navigate the planning process, and be keen to further progress the scale and range of your project experience in your new role. You’ll also be excited to expand your opportunities to advocate schemes direct with stakeholders, and to support business winning.

As our newest Planner at Avalon you can expect to work on a diverse project portfolio from day one, and to help support clients through every stage of the planning process—from feasibility to consent. You’ll be keen to showcase your already strong technical expertise, as well as build your knowledge and experience by collaborating with colleagues across planning, heritage and archaeology.
What You’ll Bring
* Experience in town planning and solid general knowledge of planning legislation, gained either in‑house (developer/housebuilder), within consultancy or in local government
* A growing understanding of the policy and legislative frameworks
* Demonstrated experience supporting or securing allocations/planning permissions and contributing to S106 negotiations
* Experience supporting planning applications from feasibility through to determination
* Experience of inputting into appeals
* Awareness of related technical disciplines (highways, drainage, ecology, heritage)
* Degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline, MRTPI qualified or working towards full membership
