SEN Teaching Assistant
Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to work with pupils in the Southampton area. This role involves supporting children with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, communication challenges, and social, emotional or behavioural needs.
Working closely with teaching staff, you will provide structured and consistent support to help pupils engage with lessons, develop confidence, and build positive learning habits. Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or in small groups depending on individual student requirements.

The Role:
1. Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEN
2. Assist pupils during lessons, activities, and daily routines
3. Support behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
4. Adapt learning tasks to suit individual needs
5. Encourage pupil participation, independence, and confidence
6. Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and wider support teams
7. Help maintain a calm, positive, and structured classroom environment
8. Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently
Ideal Candidate:
9. Experience working with children or individuals with additional needs
10. Calm, patient, and supportive approach
11. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
12. Able to build rapport and trust with pupils
13. Flexible and responsive to changing situations
14. Reliable and able to work effectively within a team
15. Backgrounds in SEN, care, youth work, or support roles welcomed
Contract Details:
16. Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
17. Location: Southampton
18. Start Date: ASAP
19. Working Pattern: Full‑time, term‑time
20. Pay Rate: £ – £ per hour
21. Key Stages: Primary / Secondary
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
22. SEN or child‑support experience desirable
23. Safeguarding training can be provided
24. Knowledge of SEN strategies beneficial but not essential
