Junior Clinical Fellow Emergency Department
The Emergency Department has a well-equipped 3 bed Resuscitation area, 10 bedded majors area and 5 minors cubicles allowing separate streaming for this group of patients. There are also a purpose built Paediatric waiting and clinical area and an 8 bedded Short Stay Ward. The department is adjacent to the Radiology department and CT scanner and an OOH GP service.
The Department covers a large geographic area and sees over 60,000 new patients per year. It receives the full range of Emergency patients, with Paediatric patients making up approximately 25% of the total. Salisbury is a designated Trauma Unit linked to UHS as our nearest MTC. There is a large military population utilising the Salisbury Plain Training Area and living in the area with their young families and this is set to grow over the next 2 years with a new military town being developed.
There is an experienced and supportive cohort of nurses with a Band 6 in charge of each shift and 3 ENPs through the day until midnight responsible for the Minors area.
The hospital has all DGH specialities including acute medicine based on AMU, paediatrics and daytime interventional cardiology. Overnight surgical work is covered by a pooled junior doctor rota supported by critical care outreach. Anaesthetics, medicine, O&G and paediatrics all have registrar presence overnight.
Main duties of the job
The new appointee will be expected to work with and be supported by the existing ED Consultants and Middle Grades to undertake clinical work within the department, assessing patients across all areas, including Majors, Minors, Paediatrics and Resus.
