About the role: Sewing Tutor
Activate Learning is seeking passionate and skilled sewing enthusiasts to join our Learning for Leisure team. This exciting opportunity allows you to share your expertise in garment making and home crafts with eager adult learners in the Berkshire area. Whether you are an experienced tutor or an individual that can confidently deliver practical workshops, consider showcasing your skills by becoming a role model to a diverse group of learners from all ages, including adults and young learners who display a passion for creative arts.
We offer a variety of short-term sewing courses throughout the year at our well-equipped facilities at Woodley Hill House and Reading College. Our courses cater to diverse skill levels, from complete beginners to more advanced sewists looking to develop specific techniques.
We currently have an opportunity to teach on a two-hour evening weekly course, but welcome the expansion of this provision. Travel will be required in this role, as you will predominantly be working at both Woodley Hill House and Reading College, but opportunities may arise throughout our local community in Berkshire.
What do you need to be a successful Learning for Leisure Tutor at Activate Learning?
Ideally, you will hold a teacher's qualification or have experience teaching within an education setting, such as Adult Education, National Saturday Club, schools, or youth clubs. You will have extensive knowledge of the subject area and can engage and interact with students to ensure they succeed in their end goals. To find out more about the courses we offer, please visit the Activate Learning Adult Education website.
Your communication and interpersonal skills will be outstanding and support your ability to deliver interesting, fun, and purposeful lessons to adults. You'll need to have a flexible mindset to connect with the communities you're teaching. You will be joining an established and supportive team within our Learning for Leisure and Community Learning provision on a casual contract basis. Our positions offer a variety of flexible working patterns such as daytime, evenings, and weekends depending on the scheduled timetable.
Experience teaching sewing in educational or community settings would be an advantage, with a strong understanding of pattern reading, fabric selection, and machine operation.
