We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dedicated Head of Academic Support to lead and coordinate the department and encourage all students to make progress in this subject regardless of ability. The role is to join the department in January or April 2026. This is a full-time, permanent appointment.

We are a seven day a week boarding school; all teaching staff should be aware that there are lessons on a Saturday morning and are expected to participate in activities offered to pupils during evenings and weekends.
In addition to the general duties of a teacher at Wellington, the post holder has a number of management and leadership responsibilities relating to the co-ordination of the department. There is a requirement to develop and implement a department development plan and to stay up to date with new initiatives in supporting pupils with SpLDs.
Responsibilities
* Ensure that pupils with SpLDs are appropriately supported
* Ensure that mainstream colleagues are kept informed of individual needs
* Identify those pupils who may need additional support
* Ensure that records are maintained and updated
* Establish and maintain good working relationships with pupils, mainstream colleagues, tutors, House Masters/Mistresses, parents and outside professionals to ensure that pupils are properly supported
* Demonstrate effective leadership qualities, with a proven track record
* Ensure that an annual department development plan is in place and followed
* Keep up to speed with new initiatives in the area of support for those with SpLDs
* Manage the Academic Support team and their continuing professional development
* Take responsibility for the recruitment and appointment within the Department

What we are looking for
Essential
* Good level degree in this subject or another directly related subject or a suitable Post Graduate qualification
* Leading and managing a team
* Thorough knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
Desirable
* Recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, or equivalent experience
* Teaching experience at A/IB level
* Awareness of safeguarding requirements and good practice within a boarding school setting
* Involvement in extra-curricular activities (professional, amateur or voluntary)
