Job Description:
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated consultant physician in Stroke Medicine based at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on a full-time basis with flexible conditions to include weekend working.
The post holder will be employed by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
The clinical commitments include responsibility for inpatient care of acute and rehabilitation stroke patients, rapid access TIA patient assessments, outpatient stroke clinics, ambulatory stroke care, and on-call for the regional tele-stroke thrombolysis service. The job involves rotating every 2 weeks between acute, rehabilitation, TIA Clinics, and ambulatory stroke service/ward referrals between 4 consultants. This split is subject to change based on service needs.
Specific roles include:
* Consultant 1 (acute stroke): Daily ward rounds for 16 acute stroke patients, review of all new admissions within 14 hours.
* Consultant 2 (Stroke Rehab): Twice weekly ward rounds, 2 stroke clinics, 1 MDT supported by a junior doctor.
* Consultant 3 (TIA): Daily TIA clinics, referrals seen within 24 hours as per NICE guidelines.
* Consultant 4: Ambulatory stroke clinic for minor strokes and mimics, reviews inpatient referrals, provides cover for leave.
About us: The hospital serves Lancashire and South Cumbria, offering a broad range of services including tertiary care in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and haematology. It is a teaching hospital affiliated with Liverpool University Medical School, UCLan, and Lancaster University. The post aims to provide comprehensive stroke and general medical care, including 24-hour thrombolysis services.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* MRCP
* Higher training in relevant specialties for CCT
* Entry onto the UK SpR within 6 months of CCT
Experience and clinical skills
* Management of stroke including thrombolysis and rehabilitation
* Expert opinion on acute medical conditions
* Independent responsibility for patient care
* Good practical skills, ALS competency, team building, communication, management skills, and leadership experience
Teaching
* Experience in teaching juniors and allied health professionals
Audit & Research
* Experience in audit, research methodology, and applying research to clinical practice
