JOB TITLE: Private Banking Lending Manager

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Chester, West Yorkshire, Hove or Abingdon

HOURS: Full time

WORKING PATTERN: This is a homeworking role. Occasional travel will be required to meet Brokers in London. Colleagues with disabilities can be supported with workplace adjustments.

Ready to shape the future of lending in Private Banking? We’re looking for a proactive and people-focused individual to join our Specialised Lending Team as a Private Banking Specialist Lender. This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of our lending operations, delivering exceptional outcomes for high-value clients while helping shape the future of our lending proposition.

What you’ll be doing:

1. Proactively manage and build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, acting as a trusted business partner.

2. Collaborate closely with lending colleagues to manage and deepen relationships with important external introducers and brokers.

3. Drive business development by cultivating new broker partnerships, identifying emerging market opportunities, and converting quality new lending leads into pipeline growth.

4. Build, nurture, and support ongoing client relationships, including managing loan renewals, ensuring smooth transitions, and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction throughout the lending lifecycle.

5. Identify and resolve shortcomings in compliance and distribution processes to enhance customer service and strengthen risk control.

6. Maintain a productive and solution-focused working relationship with Wealth Credit Risk to support the delivery of outstanding customer outcomes.

7. Provide informed input into the development of improved procedures and processes to enhance the end‑to‑end customer lending journey.

8. Deliver operational support to senior managers through non‑routine activities, using established programmes and protocols to support strategic objectives.

Essential Skills

9. 3+ years experience in complex HNW residential and specialist lending

10. Proven understanding of the UK residential property market and the services that support it.

11. Strong relationship management skills as you'll be working across Private Banking, Wealth Credit Risk and introducers

12. Customer‑first decision‑making with confident judgement in complex lending scenarios

13. Continuous improvement approach with strong control, documentation and process discipline

Desirable Skills

14. Ability to coach others in lending standards and credit reasoning

15. Comfortable using customer and partner feedback to enhance service

16. Proactive in sharing knowledge and guidelines across teams

This role is considered Certified under the Senior Manager and Certification Regime as either requiring mandatory qualifications or being deemed as a role capable of providing ‘significant harm’ to customers. Due to this, successful candidates will be subject to enhanced levels of vetting, and required to complete a fitness and propriety attestation on commencement in role. Colleagues performing this role will be required to be complete a fitness and propriety attestation on an annual basis and will also be subject to additional routine criminal and credit checks

This role has been identified as a Functions requiring qualifications under SYSC 27.8.10R as defined in the FCA Handbook.(1) Each function involving an activity for which there is a qualification requirement as specified in TC App 1.1.1R (Activities and Products/Sectors to which TC applies) is an FCA certification function.(2) A person performs the FCA certification function in this rule even if:(a) the time period within which the person must have obtained the qualification requirement has not yet expired; or(b) the person is exempt from the qualification requirement.

If you manage certified colleagues this role will be identified as Manager of certification employees under SYSC 27.8.13R as defined in the FCA Handbook(1) The function of managing or supervising a certification employee, directly or indirectly, is an FCA-specified significant-harm function.(2) A function in (1) is not an FCA certification function for that firm if it is performed by an SMF manager of that firm.
