Co-ordinate designated study programme delivery activities for the College, including delivery of high quality teaching, responsibility for day-to-day operational issues, exams, and timetabling, ensuring a consistent approach across sites if required. Inspire and motivate students through outstanding teaching and learning that challenges them to excel.
Lecturers should be passionate about their teaching area and enthusiastic about developing students' English, Maths, and employability skills. Regular target setting and progress monitoring will underpin these efforts to ensure successful outcomes for all students.
The following outlines the main priorities of this role, as directed by senior management, and is not an exhaustive list:
1. Deliver high-quality teaching according to College standards and external validating bodies. Prepare teaching materials, schemes of work, and lesson plans, develop curricula, conduct quality assurance with the Head of Department, assess student work, monitor progress, and report on outcomes, including maintaining statutory compliance such as safeguarding, equal opportunities, and health and safety.
2. Manage course operations including communication, problem-solving, timetable management, arranging cover, planning work experience and enrichment activities, liaising with departments like Exams, MIS, ALS, and ensuring cross-site compliance and consistency.
3. Assist with recruitment and enrolment by managing application procedures, transfers, late enrollments, and organizing induction programs to ensure correct course placement for students.
4. Support student development through regular meetings, setting SMART targets, assisting with UCAS references, and liaising with college services to support academic and personal needs.
5. Monitor attendance and achievement by tracking registers, exam entries, and course performance, and implementing action plans as needed.
6. Promote English and Maths provision, including monitoring attendance and student movement between classes.
7. Participate in meetings and events such as staff meetings, parent evenings, marketing events, and CPD activities, including planning and coordinating parent consultations.
8. Collaborate with colleagues to develop courses and materials, participate in CPD, peer observations, and mentor new lecturers.
9. Manage departmental administration including attendance marking, reporting, and updating the VLE.
10. Engage in quality assurance activities like course reviews, verification, moderation, and SARs.
Lecturers on SPS points 5–8 will additionally:
* Undertake internal verification, moderation, and standardisation for assigned courses.
* Coordinate and monitor actions from SARs, observations, and quality reviews.
* Assist with resource and staffing management.
* Support curriculum and quality issues with senior staff.
* Ensure timely completion of UCAS references and liaise with higher education institutions.
