Working Pattern
You will work every other weekend and 2/3 weekdays in the summer period, and 2 days per week in the winter period.
Responsibilities
Describe to visitors what mill life was like in the 18th and 19th centuries for adults and children, explain how cotton is processed from bale to thread to cloth. Contribute to manufacturing cloth on historic machinery sold in our shop. Clean and conserve textile machines, and over time learn to operate all textile machinery under training from experienced team members. Training starts in hand spinning and weaving; learn to spin on a spinning wheel and weave on hand looms. Personal development includes deepening knowledge of machinery and history, training others, and supporting Technical and Mill entrance volunteers.
Qualifications & Skills
* Experience working in a team
* Knowledge of health & safety
* Background in interpretation (e.g., delivering talks to school groups and public visitors)
* Practical aptitude in heritage skill and crafts
Salary & Working Hours
Salary: £13.25 per hour. Contract duration: Permanent. Working hours: 1033 hours per year, annualised. Salary paid in 12 equal instalments.
