Teaching at Cardinal Newman College
We always endeavour to timetable to our staff members’ strengths.
Where possible, we can timetable flexibly for staff who may need to be on-site later or leave site earlier to accommodate the school run etc., adjusting the FTE appropriately.
For the last few years, we have been able to allow for a week and a half off during October half term and will continue to do so where possible. As well as this, we tend to break up for Summer around early July which is a week earlier than most other colleges.
We have a fantastic specialised pastoral team who, as part of their role, act as tutors and therefore teaching staff do not undertake the role of form tutors.
Following the introduction of a new teaching spine in 2016 whereby incremental rises are linked to performance, we are proud to say that no member of teaching staff had an increment withheld during the academic year 24/25. We believe in supporting staff successes and incremental rises are a key part of this. As such, we do our up most to work together to avoid withholding the rises wherever possible.
