Overview
Applications are invited for a fixed-term Clinical Fellow (ST6+) in Endo-Urology based at the Department of Urology, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Scotland, available from August 2026 to August 2027.
Suitable for candidates with Urology experience overseas or within the UK, or overseas candidates wishing to expand their training in a high-volume tertiary referral unit in the UK.
The fellowship includes a Urological Surgery training programme similar to that delivered to type‑1 trainees in the department, tailored to the individual. It primarily aims to expose the candidate to a full range of Endo-Urology procedures—Ureteroscopy, PCNL, Endoscopic Cystolithotripsy, ESWL and HOLEP—to develop a subspecialty interest.
Responsibilities
The candidate will work with a team of three Endo-Urology consultants, a specialist uro‑radiologist, a stone specialist nurse and three radiographers. The team runs a weekly stone MDT meeting with a streamlined service.
The candidate will be encouraged and supported to apply through the portfolio route for type‑2 trainees to achieve specialist registration. Trainees will have access to invested trainers and training opportunities to provide Workplace-Based Assessments that augment the application process.
They will also be given dedicated time for audit, quality assurance, quality improvement projects and research, integral to the portfolio process.
The post-holder will participate in a Urology middle‑grade on‑call rota (1:8) on an emergency/elective split. Close collaboration with the Health Services Research Unit and Aberdeen Academic Urology is expected to increase the candidate’s academic portfolio during dedicated time.
Research culminating in peer-reviewed publications while in post is encouraged.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess MBChB/MBBS and MRCS (or equivalent). Specialist qualifications such as FRCS Urology or FEBU are desirable, and exam support—including study leave for preparatory courses—can be provided if required.
Full registration with a GMC licence to practise is required (licence must be in place before starting the post).
Additional Information
This post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training programme approval.
As of 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata, but a corresponding hourly rate increase will protect pay.
The post may close early due to volume of applications.
