Children are at the heart of all that we do at Mount Pleasant Primary School and we are looking for a dynamic and suitably experienced individual, for whom our values and ethos resonate, to become a class teacher. We offer an exciting, enhanced curriculum, enriched by the opportunities of being on the Falkland Islands; the curriculum aims to promote an enthusiasm for learning, personalised education to meet individual needs as well as developing skills and knowledge across all subjects. Our ethos and values underpin school life and are fundamental to all that we do in the close-knit community of Mount Pleasant Complex. We have many years of experience supporting Service families and are determined to make the very best of the short time the children are with us.

Mount Pleasant School, situated on Mount Pleasant military complex in the Falkland Islands, provides education for primary children for 3-11 years. This is a small school and at this time there are approximately 20 children on the roll, with numbers varying according to military assignments. Proudly providing education for the children of UK MOD personnel on continuity tours assigned to British Forces South Atlantic Islands (BFSAI), the school has excellent facilities, is well resourced and moved to a purpose-built building in November 2019. Mount Pleasant School is situated in the heart of the community close to all the family housing.

Defence Children Services (DCS) is a Defence delivery organisation, subordinated under Army Regional Command. Our Vision is that we Educate the Child – Support the Family – Defend the Nation. HQ DCS is UK based at Trenchard Lines, Upavon and has forward deployed staff all over the world. DCS is responsible for the education and care of children of accompanied Service and Defence entitled personnel in MOD schools and settings; provides advice and guidance in respect of education for service families in the United Kingdom and the wider world This position is advertised at 30 hours per week as a full-time teaching post.

Specially recruited for overseas service appointees are not expected to return to the UK.

Teachers hold the full range of teaching responsibilities as outlined in the DfE Teacher Standards and are expected to fully achieve these standards in their work and conduct. Some of the responsibilities include:

· Plan and teach high quality lessons to an assigned class

· deliver the curriculum as relevant to the age and ability group/subject/s that you teach

· be accountable to the progress and attainment of all children that you teach

· assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment

· adapt teaching to respond to strengths and needs of pupils

· be aware of pupil’s capabilities, their prior knowledge and plan teaching to differentiate appropriately to build on these, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn

· set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils

· promote good progress and outcomes for pupils

· demonstrate good subject knowledge of the National Curriculum for England

· participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for internal and external mandatory assessments

· establish a safe, purposeful and stimulating environment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect

· establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly

· maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary

· Be a positive role model and demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour, which are expected of pupils

· safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times

· carry out playground duties and other duties as directed and within the remit of the current School Teachers’ Pay and Condition Document

Person Specification

The successful candidate is expected to hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and successful completion of induction. Candidates are required to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

· Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils

· Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils

· Demonstrate good National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation stage subject and curriculum knowledge

· Plan and teach well-structured lessons

· Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils

· Make accurate and productive use of assessment

· Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment

· Fulfil wider professional responsibilities

Qualifications and Requirements:

· The successful candidate is required to hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and successful completion of induction.

· Evidence of qualification will be required at interview. All qualifications declared must be held at point of application and if applicable be in date.

In line with the TACOs for this post, accommodation is free for the first five years of your MOD employment overseas with subsidised utilities. Thereafter, rent and utilities are payable. Please note if you have previously worked overseas for the MOD and have been in recipient of free rent and utilities then that period will be deducted from your five-year allowance.

This post offers full relocation allowances subject to availability. Cost of Living Overseas Allowances is payable based on personal circumstances and marital status.
