Position Title: Payroll Manager Department: Human Resources Operations Reports To: Compensation & Benefits Lead Location: Lisburn or Republic of Ireland plus 3 days a week WFH Role Overview The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading the full-cycle payroll function across both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. This role ensures all employee payments are processed accurately, on time, and in full compliance with statutory obligations, while also supporting the financial wellbeing of the workforce. Key Responsibilities Take ownership of payroll processing across NI and ROI, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery. Supervise and execute payroll runs in line with internal schedules and external requirements. Approve and submit payroll files (BACs/SEPA) for payment through banking platforms. Collaborate with the Compensation and Benefits function to apply changes impacting payroll accurately. Manage disbursements to external entities such as HMRC, Irish Revenue, and benefits providers. Oversee payroll-affecting updates to employee records and ensure correct integration with payroll data. Prepare and reconcile payroll-related accounting entries, including general ledger postings and balance sheet reconciliations. Handle compliance submissions to government agencies, including RTI and ROI equivalents. Ensure payroll data aligns with financial statements and support audit trails. Maintain robust controls in line with the organisations governance framework. Act as the key contact for payroll-related employee queries, collaborating with HR and shared service partners. Support financial planning through data analysis and reporting for forecasting and review processes. Liaise with SAP specialists to support technical payroll system developments and troubleshooting. Lead testing and implementation of system upgrades or legislative adjustments within payroll systems. Ensure proper taxation and reporting of benefits in kind, employee shares, and other earnings. Prepare and deliver year-end documentation to staff and regulatory authorities. Provide data and support for both internal and external audits as needed. Promote efficiency and quality within the payroll team by identifying areas for improvement. Stay informed on legal and policy updates affecting payroll functions. Lead and contribute to payroll-specific change programmes and strategic initiatives. Required Experience and Skills A degree in a relevant field or substantial equivalent experience in payroll operations. At least 5 years of end-to-end payroll processing experience. Strong understanding of PAYE legislation in both the UK and Ireland. Proven ability to handle multiple deadlines and work with minimal supervision. Exceptional attention to detail and high accuracy in data handling. Strong problem-solving ability and data analysis skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in cross-functional collaboration. Track record in implementing process improvements and managing change. High level of discretion and respect for confidentiality.
