Job Role: Senior Architectural Technologist
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £35,000 – £44,000 DOE
Aztrum is pleased to be working with a growing, design-led architectural practice based in the West Midlands, known for delivering thoughtful and bespoke residential architecture. With a portfolio ranging from conservation-led refurbishments to contemporary new builds, the studio is recognised for its contextually sensitive approach, elegant detailing, and client-focused service. As the team continues to expand, they are now looking to appoint a Senior Architectural Technologist with a strong design sensibility to support the early stages of residential projects, from concept through to planning.
This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the creative direction of unique homes across the region, working closely with a talented and collaborative team.
Key responsibilities for the Senior Architectural Technologist role:
• Lead the development of concept designs, feasibility studies, and planning-stage proposals across RIBA Stages 0–3.
• Translate client briefs into well-resolved architectural schemes that balance functionality, aesthetics, and compliance.
• Create high-quality Revit models and technical drawings to support early-stage presentations and planning submissions.
• Conduct site appraisals and planning policy research to inform massing, form, and material selection.
• Collaborate with consultants and planners to guide projects smoothly through the early design and approvals process.
• Contribute to the visual and technical quality of design outputs, ensuring clarity and coherence at every stage.
Key requirements for the Senior Architectural Technologist role:
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Architectural Technology; CIAT accreditation preferred.
• At least 5 years of UK-based experience, ideally within a residential or design-focused studio.
• Demonstrable strength in RIBA Stages 0–3, with a portfolio showing early-stage concept and planning work.
• Proficient in Revit, with a clear understanding of residential design principles and planning constraints.
• Knowledge of UK building regulations and the planning system, particularly for one-off and high-end housing.
• Confident communicator, able to articulate and justify design decisions to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented, creative, and motivated by high-quality, people-centred residential design.
