A CPI data administrator / collector is responsible for collecting the prices of specific items on a monthly basis in a selection of retail premises across a dedicated town, or city. It is important work that impacts every industry in the country and is undertaken on two set days every month — always a Monday and Tuesday — with the potential for a short collection on a Friday in some areas.
CPI Collectors work approximately 12-15 hours over these two set days per month. It may take longer initially while you are learning store layouts.
If you are over 18, have a vehicle & a valid UK driving license, and want to earn money while visiting shops — then this role is suitable for you!
From April 2024: £13.44 per hour (£12.00 per hour + £1.44 holiday pay) outside London, plus travel expenses.
We provide comprehensive fully-paid training to prepare you for success in this role.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is responsible for producing the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), the UK's primary measure of inflation, which influences benefits, pensions, and other economic factors. Collectors from Verian gather prices of goods and services from a wide range of frequently purchased items across over 200 towns and cities in the UK, tracking changes over time.
This is an ideal part-time role for individuals seeking experience in customer service, sales, or administration — especially those with existing commitments, childcare, or caring responsibilities who want to supplement their income.
You will visit the same locations, for the same items each month; each collection involves recording between 800 & 1500 items from 15-20 locations, including:
* Supermarkets & convenience stores
* Restaurants & bars
* Discount retailers
* Clothing shops
* Cinemas
* Mechanics' garages
* Tobacconists
