An established and growing independent accountancy practice is seeking a Tax Senior / Assistant Manager to join its expanding Business Services team. The Team
You will join a well-established tax team of around 10 professionals, including senior leadership, managers, qualified accountants, and trainees. The tax function is split across two key areas:
1. Corporate Tax and Tax Planning / Advisory
2. Personal Tax and P11Ds
The wider firm also has specialist teams covering payroll, company secretarial, and accounting/audit services. The client base primarily consists of owner-managed businesses and groups across a broad range of sectors.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality personal and corporate tax compliance services while supporting client relationships and mentoring junior team members.
Key responsibilities include:
3. Managing a portfolio of personal and corporate tax clients
4. Preparing and reviewing personal and corporate tax returns and computations
5. Ensuring all filing and reporting deadlines are met
6. Acting as a point of contact for client and HMRC correspondence
7. Dealing with client queries in a timely and professional manner
8. Identifying and communicating tax planning opportunities
9. Assisting with more complex corporate tax matters
10. Maintaining high standards of tax compliance across the portfolio
11. Supporting and training junior members of the team
12. Liaising with other departments where required
Person Specification
Candidates will have experience in some or all of the following areas:
13. Corporation tax compliance
14. Personal tax returns and computations
15. P11Ds
16. Partnership tax returns
17. Managing a client portfolio
18. Dealing with HMRC enquiries and disputes
19. Strong knowledge of Corporation Tax, Income Tax, and Capital Gains Tax
20. Awareness of VAT, Inheritance Tax, and other taxes (e.g. SDLT)
21. Experience using tax software (e.g. CCH or similar)
22. Strong written and verbal communication skills
23. Excellent organisational and time-management skills
24. A flexible approach to working hours during peak deadlines
Experience within an accountancy practice environment is essential, and up-to-date CPD records are expected.
Working Arrangements
25. Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (8:30am - 4:30pm), with flexibility to meet business needs
