Please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any time should it be filled via the internal redeployment process Job Overview PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM STAFF CURRENTLY EMPLOYED BY ANEURIN BEVAN UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD The Senior Information Governance Officer (SIGO) key roles are to be responsible for the management of a range of information governance (IG) functions as part of the delivery of the Informatics strategy across the Health Board and to act as a contact point for a range of internal and external people in relation to information governance. Working within the IG strategic framework, the SIGO will manage the implementation of a comprehensive information governance framework and ensure that ABHB is complying with relevant legislation, regulations, standards and guidelines. The SIGO will provide IG expertise identifying best practice and making recommendations for local implementation. The SIGO is responsible for ensuring staff across the Health Board are familiar with and practice the concepts of IG and will provide training to enable this. The SIGO will link strongly with information quality assurance, health records management, health informatics systems development programmes. The SIGO will have the lead responsibility for the management of specified tasks and projects and be the lead for a variety of functions within Informatics. Main duties of the job Working within the Information Governance strategic framework the Senior IG Officer will: The Senior Information Governance Officer will support the Head of Information Governance in developing and maintaining a robust corporate IG framework, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and NHS standards. The role involves providing expert advice on data protection, confidentiality, and information security; managing audits and investigations; overseeing training programmes; and liaising with internal and external stakeholders including the ICO and Welsh Government. The postholder will lead on IG assessments, policy reviews, and risk management, and represent the department across various forums. Candidates should have a relevant degree or equivalent experience, professional IG qualifications (e.g. ISEB), and strong analytical skills to interpret legislation, assess complex data, and communicate findings effectively. Qualifications Essential criteria Degree or demonstrable equivalent experience Relevant legislation and standards e.g. Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, Wales Standards for Health. Desirable criteria ISEB Information Security or Data Protection or equivalent Information Sharing models (non-WASPI) Experience Essential criteria Appropriate use of knowledge/evidence based practice in written or analytical presentation of work Explaining concepts to groups of people in formal and informal settings Desirable criteria Process development and service improvement Risk Management
