The Role
We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of our finance function. This is a part-time position, ideal for a qualified accountant or experienced finance manager who enjoys working closely with business owners and operational teams in a growing SME environment.
The Financial Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance, and providing management with clear insight into performance and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the day-to-day finance function (accounts payable, receivable, payroll, bank reconciliation, VAT, etc.)
* Produce monthly management accounts
* Oversee cash-flow management and prepare cash-flow forecasts
* Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (Companies House, HMRC, VAT, PAYE, pensions)
* Support budgeting, financial planning, and scenario modelling for growth projects
* Implement and improve internal controls, systems, and reporting processes
* Provide financial insight through reporting on tracking categories
* Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, and other stakeholders
* Coach and support junior finance/admin staff (if applicable)
Skills & Experience
* ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified (or equivalent experience)
* Previous experience as a Financial Controller or Finance Manager
* Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards and compliance, including group accounting
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
* Advanced Excel skills and good working knowledge of accounting systems (e.g. Xero, Sage)
* Hands-on and detail-oriented, with the ability to operate at both tactical and strategic levels
* Strong communication skills; able to work closely with directors and non-finance staff
