The Senior Sustainability Role
The remit of this role is to translate our company requirements into action at the project level, ensuring that the interests of our clients and projects are addressed through strategy development, review, and implementation. Key responsibilities include:
1. Ensuring accurate and robust data to demonstrate achievements and inform future directions.
2. Being a visible sustainability champion across the business, promoting a consistent approach aligned with our sustainability strategy, including themes such as Net Zero Carbon, Resource Efficiency, and Social Value.
3. Participating in company sustainability working groups, such as the Carbon Task Force.
4. Supporting and educating supply chain members to achieve sustainability targets.
5. Managing the case study process to communicate best practices across the business.
6. Providing sustainability advice during PQQ, tender, and PCSAs, including identifying risks and opportunities, and presenting to clients and professional teams.
7. Leading design and specification reviews to meet performance requirements (e.g., BREEAM, WELL).
8. Delivering training on environmental management and sustainability to project teams.
9. Overseeing project performance and reporting against standards like Build Sure, ensuring effective use of reporting tools.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
* Member of relevant professional body (IEMA / CIOB) working towards Chartered Status
* Strong leadership skills
* Experience providing technical sustainability support to complex construction or civil engineering projects
* Excellent communication and influencing skills
* Proactive in personal learning and development
* Ability to manage a team and multiple projects simultaneously
Your profile
Ideally, your profile will include:
* Experience managing and mentoring sustainability project teams
* Maintenance of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
* Embedding sustainability requirements into commercial documentation and on-site delivery
* Implementation of community investment initiatives and Section 106 obligations
* Management of environmental assessments such as BREEAM
* Conducting site inspections and internal audits to monitor environmental performance
