Role Type: Development role for an experienced senior engineer looking to progress

We are supporting an NHS Trust in London with the recruitment of an Estates Officer – Mechanical (Band 7) to join the Estates & Facilities team on a 3‑month temp‑to‑perm basis. This is a pivotal senior technical position designed as a development opportunity for a highly skilled mechanical engineer ready to step into strategic estates leadership.

You will take a lead role in the safe, compliant and efficient management of mechanical engineering services across a large and complex healthcare estate. The post is ideal for an engineer with strong technical capability who is looking to progress into a broader estates leadership position with long‑term development potential.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead maintenance, installation, testing, validation and commissioning of mechanical plant, systems and equipment, including HVAC, ventilation, medical gases, boilers, heating, cooling and water systems.

* Ensure all mechanical assets follow robust maintenance regimes, including statutory inspections, PPM schedules, water safety compliance (HTM 04‑01), pressure systems testing and SOP oversight.

* Lead on mechanical incident management, including failures or issues affecting critical clinical environments such as theatres, critical care and sterile services.

* Support the Head of Estates in delivering a responsive, safe and professional mechanical estates service.

* Work collaboratively with fellow Estates Officers and multidisciplinary teams on operational issues and project‑related tasks.

* Supervise contractors, ensure safe access to plant rooms and service areas, and ensure all works comply with Trust policies, HTMs, ACOPs and mechanical safety standards.

* Participate in the Estates on‑call rota, providing technical mechanical support out of hours.

* Implement and monitor compliance with H&S legislation, HTMs, ACOPs, Permit to Work systems, RAMS and Trust safety policies related to mechanical services.

* Conduct and update mechanical risk assessments, maintain compliance documentation and ensure safe systems of work are consistently applied.

* Provide specialist technical input into capital projects, reviewing mechanical technical submissions and ensuring safety, efficiency and resilience in new builds and refurbishments.

If you are an experienced mechanical engineer ready for a senior challenge and keen to develop into a broader estates leadership role, we encourage you to apply
