To ensure that the day-to-day and planned maintenance activities across College sites are carried out effectively and efficiently in line with College and Health and Safety policies and procedures, and the needs of the College.

Hours
37 hours per week - Hours to be worked on a flexible basis in line with the needs of the College, including some evening work (Tuesdays or Thursdays) and on-call cover at weekends. Sunday working and call outs will be paid on an additional hours claim form @ x1.5 in line with College’s revised policy.

Key Duties
This job description is a guide to the duties you will be expected to perform and may change in line with the College’s strategic direction and development.
1. Ensure the effective delivery of the overall maintenance service to maintain high standards within all College buildings and external areas.
2. Take responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance work related to the upkeep and improvement of the College’s Estate across all sites.
3. Provide a quality general maintenance service, prioritising and dealing with work efficiently in line with health and safety requirements.
4. Deal effectively with faults and maintenance requests in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.
5. Assist with refurbishment projects of College buildings as required.
6. Maintain tools and equipment in good repair and ensure their safe keeping.
7. Complete relevant risk assessments in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.
8. Work as part of the Facilities team to ensure high standards of service for students and staff.
9. Communicate effectively with the Facilities team and relevant staff across the College, including external suppliers.
10. Observe Health and Safety/Fire Regulations, ensuring hazards are dealt with effectively.
11. Conduct College Fire Drills and testing, ensuring documentation is completed.
12. Assist with driving College or hire vehicles as required.
13. Be familiar with and observe the College’s equality, diversity, and safeguarding policies to ensure the safety and welfare of all learners and staff.
14. Participate in the College’s appraisal scheme and staff development programs.
15. Perform any other duties reasonably expected within the grade and status.

The successful candidate will meet all essential requirements and some or all desirable requirements.
Essential Requirements
* Proven practical experience in trades such as carpentry & joinery, plumbing, painting & decorating, and plastering.
* Trustworthy, honest, and reliable.
* Residing in the locality.
* Excellent knowledge and practical experience of cleaning, including working with cleaning agents and equipment.
* Willing to work flexibly according to the College’s needs.
* Good personal presentation and interpersonal skills.
* Effective communication skills at all levels.
* Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a positive attitude.
* High level of health and safety/security awareness.
