Allsebrook Pumps are seeking an enthusiastic Apprentice Field Service Engineer to join their site near Witney. Wage

£16,640 to £26,436.80, depending on your age

What you'll do at work

The team at Allsebrook Pumps are looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Field Service Engineer to join them at their site near Witney. They’re a close‑knit group, and many of them started out as apprentices themselves, so they really understand what support you’ll need. They’re keen to share their skills and help you learn and grow in the role. This is a great chance to work with experienced engineers who genuinely want to pass on their knowledge.

Allsebrook Pumps works with all kinds of pumps and water systems. We install them, maintain them, repair them, and keep everything running smoothly.

After successfully supporting our last apprentice (who is now a fully qualified engineer with us), we’re excited to offer a new apprenticeship opportunity for someone ready to start their career.

We’re looking for someone who’s curious, motivated, and keen to learn. You’ll get hands‑on experience with everything from small domestic pumps to specialist systems. You’ll learn how to spot faults, develop strong troubleshooting skills, and build confidence in diagnosing and fixing equipment, all with the support and guidance of our experienced team.

Over the course of the apprenticeship, you will be supported to learn to:

* Work across various responsibilities while strengthening the fundamental skills central to your role.
* Check the day’s job schedule with your supervisor or lead engineer,
* Gather required tools, equipment, and materials.
* Support a qualified engineer with maintenance, repairs, diagnostics, and installations. Observe techniques and ask questions to build understanding of the role.
* Carry out basic tasks independently under supervision. Assist with fault‑finding and troubleshooting, Help install, service, or repair equipment.
* Travel as required, using the company van or designated transport, to attend call-outs and carry out service, maintenance, fault‑finding, repair and installation work on pumps and associated mechanical equipment.
* Complete job reports online, upload photos of the work carried out, and provide a brief summary detailing all equipment used.
* Use manuals if necessary for new equipment
* Work as part of a team and independently
* Engage positively with all parts of the apprenticeship, including all work required at college to complete qualifications

Training schedule

The training for this apprenticeship will take place at Abingdon & Witney College on Abingdon Campus (OX14 1GG).

Duration:

13 months practical training period, plus 3 months for End Point Assessment

Delivery model:

* Work-based training with your employer
* Day release during term time (approximately 2 days a week for 1 year)
* Regular meetings with your training coordinator to monitor progress and well-being
* Apprentices will need to complete a minimum of 300 hours of off-the-job training during their apprenticeship

Qualifications included:

* Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Skills)
* Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations (Knowledge)
* Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship

End Point Assessment:

* Practical assessment
* Professional discussion


More training information

If you don't have maths and English GCSE (A*-C/9-4), you will be required to study Functional Skills in both subjects.

Other requirements

Please note, this role will be based in a rural and remote location with no public transport links available. Due to this the applicant will require their own transport to commute to and from the workplace.

As part of this role, you'll sometimes be working on pumps and systems connected to wastewater networks. This means you may occasionally be working in environments where raw sewage is present. Full training, protective clothing, and safety equipment are provided to ensure you can carry out the work safely and with confidence. The ideal candidate will be keen to learn and gain experience to work on a wide range of equipment, from domestic pumps to specialist systems. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to identify faults, as the role requires developing strong troubleshooting skills, learning pump diagnostic techniques, and completing tasks with professionalism, openly and confidently with appropriate guidance and support.

Apprenticeship Onboarding Session and Eligibility Checks:

Any new person applying for apprenticeship roles where Abingdon & Witney College deliver the training will be required to complete some eligibility checks. This will consist of a series of initial assessments and an interview with the team. There will be the opportunity to find out more about the apprenticeship process, the training included, and for any questions you might have. You may also be required to attend an Apprenticeship Onboarding Session at Witney, Abingdon or Bicester campus. 

This will consist of a series of initial assessments (required prior to any apprenticeship offer), completion of essential paperwork, the opportunity to find out more about the apprenticeship process, the training included, and a forum for your questions.

Qualification checks:

By applying for this vacancy, you are giving Abingdon and Witney College permission to undertake a Learner Record Service check on your previous qualifications. We make every effort to ensure that applicants from non-traditional academic backgrounds or those who may not have the formal GCSE entry requirements can access apprenticeships where possible.  

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £8.00 per hour from April 2026. This applies to 16 - 18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over during the first year of their apprenticeship. After this, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on-the- job plus time spent training.
