Job Overview
This is a fixed term training contract of 24 months that provides the opportunity to gain the experience and qualifications required to register as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Salary: Initially Annex 21 Band 4 – 70%, progressing to 75% after 12 months.
The post is based at Glan Clwyd Hospital Pharmacy.
Main Duties
* Gain experience in hospital and GP practice settings dispensing for inpatients and outpatients, purchasing and distribution, and ward‑based work.
* Support medicines management and medicines optimisation processes within a GP practice setting.
* Participate in a multi‑area, rotational training programme.
Training and Development
The two‑year training programme is an apprenticeship approved by the GPhC. It involves full‑time (37.5 hours per week) work, portfolio building, work‑based assessment, online learning, study days and group work. Commitment to studying outside working hours and meeting training deadlines is essential. Experience in pharmacy settings is desirable but not required.
Qualifications
* Essential: 4 GCSEs A–C, including Maths, English and Science.
* Desirable: Evidence of academic study or NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services.
Experience
* Desirable: Experience working in hospital, community pharmacy or NHS.
Aptitude and Abilities
* Essential: Ability to work in a team, self‑organisation, good IT skills, health and safety awareness.
* Desirable: Ability to speak Welsh or be comfortable in a bilingual environment.

* Desirable: Initiative, time management, willingness to travel, appreciation of responsibility within the health care environment.
