Why choose DHL eCommerce UK?
Want to work for one of the UK’s best workplaces? DHL eCommerce UK has been recognised as a Best Workplace 2023 and Top Employer accreditation for the 5th year running. Competitive pay rates along with benefits including discount vouchers for restaurants, cinemas, retail outlets, healthcare and more, as well as pension, enhanced family leave, childcare discounts, employee assistance programme and more.
About the role
You will drive a lorry from our exceptional fleet of Volvo vehicles, all less than 4 years old. They’re a joy to drive, and are equipped to a high specification, including fridges, leather seats and many more optional extras to ensure you’re comfortable.
Most sites run from Monday to Friday, with 45 hour weeks and 9-hour shifts per day, typically starting at 7/8am. Our well-organised shift schedules help you know in advance where you’ll be driving, reducing day-to-day stress.
The role provides job security within a growing, global business. We operate a busy fleet, so there’s ongoing work with the option for additional hours and enhanced rates of pay for bank holidays and night-time hours (10pm-6am). You’ll join a friendly team — drivers often stay with us for many years. We support each other, including sharing traffic updates via WhatsApp.
Key Role Responsibilities
We don’t micromanage drivers. You will plan your own routes. The average number of stops in a shift is 4 to 6, leaving you time to enjoy the open road, while still being home at the end of every 9-hour shift.
You’ll ensure Cages, Pallets, Freight, Stillages and Yorks reach customers on time. At some sites goods may be loaded/unloaded for you; at others you may need to do it yourself. Scanning consignments and driving pallet trucks may be part of your day.
You’ll be responsible for inspecting your vehicle and trailer daily and completing a Defect Report if necessary.
You will ensure everything is “right first time” for internal and external customers. As a good communicator, you’ll work hard to keep customers happy and pass any unanswerable queries to your site manager quickly.
The ideal candidate will have
* Class 1 Driving licence
* Driver CPC qualification card
* Completed required DCPC training hours or be working towards them
* Excellent knowledge of road transport laws and commitment to safe use of the roads
* A “can do” attitude
