Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit 9 fixed‑term, part-time Medical Laboratory Assistants to join our Pathology Specimen Reception teams, based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (5 posts) and the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford (4 posts).
Please note that these are not trainee Biomedical Scientist posts and are unlikely to lead to one.
We are seeking self‑motivated and conscientious individuals who have an organised approach with good attention to detail, can remain calm in stressful situations, have excellent communication and observation skills, and enjoy working as part of a team.
Previous experience in an NHS clinical laboratory or in analytical techniques would be an advantage but not essential, as full training will be provided. A good level of secondary education is required with English, Maths and Science to GCSE grade 9‑4 (or equivalent).

Main duties of the job
* Receipt, data entry and pre‑analytic preparation of patient samples
* Preparation of chemical solutions
* Maintenance of consumable stocks
* Disposal of chemical and/or biological waste
* Maintenance and decontamination of complex laboratory equipment
The role is a key support to the diagnostic service.
Working hours and shift details
You will be required to work 20 hours per week (Monday‑Friday) between 07:00 and 21:00. Shifts will vary according to service needs so flexibility is essential. You will also be expected to support a 7‑day working rota which will include out of hours work such as evenings (Late and Partial Late shifts), nights, weekends and bank/public holidays.
