The Opportunity
Ugobus is the County Council's in-house transport fleet, primarily providing passenger transport for Adult Social Care clients to Essex Cares Ltd centres, and for children attending Special Educational Needs schools, mainstream schools, and local bus routes.
The team plays a vital role in providing access to social and welfare facilities for some of the most vulnerable residents of Essex.
The Ugobus Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of the transport service, managing staff and vehicle resources to meet customer needs and achieve service goals focused on excellent customer service, supporting access to employment, education, and care opportunities.
This role involves ensuring that drivers and passenger assistants adhere to health and safety standards and legislative requirements.
Accountabilities
* Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements (e.g., drivers' hours, Section 19/22 licensing).
* Manage a team of 30-40 drivers and passenger assistants, ensuring adherence to GDPR and HR policies.
* Maintain accurate operational records and risk assessments.
* Enforce health and safety and legal operating procedures, taking corrective actions when necessary.
* Ensure team members comply with the Highway Code and deliver professional, high-quality service.
* Coordinate training programs for drivers and passenger assistants, supporting continuous professional development.
* Support customer service initiatives, handling complaints promptly and effectively.
* Assist in route planning and resource allocation to optimize efficiency and costs.
* Support the team during peak times and staff absences.
Experience and Skills
* Educated to A level/NVQ level 4 or equivalent.
* Experience in passenger transport operations management, with a preference for Level 4 certification.
* Proven vehicle and fleet management skills.
* Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience managing HR issues such as recruitment, disciplinary actions, and staff welfare.
* Ability to plan routes and allocate resources in compliance with legislation.
* Calm and independent decision-making skills in dynamic operational environments.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and IT skills.
* Valid Category D1 driving license and ECC minibus assessment pass required.
