Pertemps Scotland are currently recruiting multiple Van Drivers for our public sector client to support a busy waste and cleansing department in Edinburgh.This is a physically demanding, outdoor role ideal for reliable candidates who are comfortable with manual work, driving duties, and want to make a visible difference to local communities.Location: Edinburgh EastPay Rate: £14.02 per hourHours of Work: 4 days on 4 days off 06.00-17.02 (45 minute break( OR Monday to Friday 07:00 – 14:57 (45-minute break)Contract: Temporary ongoingStart Date: Immediate starts availableThe RoleYou will support the cleansing and upkeep of Edinburgh’s streets and public areas while also operating a cage vehicle to assist with waste collection and disposal.This is a dual-role position combining driving responsibilities with hands-on street cleansing duties.Duties include (but are not limited to):
o Driving a cage vehicle safely and responsibly across designated routes
o Carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting defects in line with health & safety procedures
o Transporting collected waste to disposal sites
o Cleaning and servicing city streets and public spaces
o Sweeping, brushing, and removing leaves and debris
o Removing weeds from pavements and public areas using manual tools
o Emptying public litter and waste bins
o Safe collection, handling, and disposal of waste materials
o Handling physically demanding tasks including lifting, bending, and repetitive movements
o Walking long distances throughout shifts
o Occasional interaction with members of the public
o Dealing with unpleasant waste, including bodily fluids where required
What to Expect
o A physically intensive role involving heavy lifting and regular bending/kneeling
o Extensive walking across urban areas
o Outdoor work in all weather conditions
o Responsibility for safe vehicle operation and compliance
o Full induction, training, and PPE provided
Successful Candidates Will:
o Hold a valid UK driving licence (essential)
o Be confident driving a cage vehicle in urban environments
o Be honest, reliable, and punctual
o Have a strong work ethic and willingness to carry out manual work
o Be able to work effectively as part of a team
o Be health and safety conscious
o Maintain professionalism while working in public environments
