Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Emergency Lighting & Fire Alarm Service Engineer to join our growing team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of fire alarm and emergency lighting systems across commercial, industrial, and residential environments.
This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a proactive commitment to safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Fire Alarm Systems
* Perform routine inspections, servicing, and corrective maintenance on fire alarm systems in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
* Diagnose system faults, identify root causes, and complete timely repairs.
* Install and commission new fire alarm systems, including addressable and conventional panels.
Emergency Lighting Systems
* Carry out inspection, testing, maintenance, and fault-finding on emergency lighting systems.
* Perform monthly and annual emergency lighting testing in accordance with BS 5266 and relevant standards.
* Replace faulty components including luminaires, batteries, and control gear.
* Ensure emergency lighting systems meet compliance requirements and provide adequate escape route illumination.
* Maintain accurate test records and certification documentation.
Testing & Compliance
* Conduct functional testing and integrity checks on fire detection, alarm equipment, and emergency lighting systems.
* Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., BS 5839, BS 5266, NFPA where applicable, and local codes).
* Maintain accurate service reports, test documentation, and compliance records.
Customer Interaction
* Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly and professionally to clients.
* Provide on-site technical guidance and support.
* Identify opportunities for system improvements, upgrades, or additional services.
Health & Safety
* Follow company health and safety procedures and industry best practices at all times.
* Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, and PPE.
* Maintain safe working practices in varied environments, including working at heights or confined spaces where required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
* Proven experience servicing fire alarm or life safety systems.
* Experience with emergency lighting inspection and testing.
* Strong knowledge of fire alarm panels (e.g., Morley, Gent, Siemens, Honeywell, Advanced).
* Understanding of fire detection principles, emergency lighting systems, wiring methods, and electronic circuits.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
* Full, clean UK driving licence.
* Strong communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* Relevant certification in fire alarm systems or electrical engineering.
* FIA (Fire Industry Association) training or equivalent.
* Emergency lighting certification or experience working to BS 5266 standards.
* Experience with additional life safety systems such as fire suppression systems.
