An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, proactive Nurse Specialist to make a significant difference to the health outcomes of patients diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in the West Midlands. This is a full time, band 6 (consideration would be given for a band 6 developmental post if no previous CNS experience) based within the Department of Neurology at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT), providing services to people living in the county and its surrounding area. The successful applicant will work as part of the expanding neurological team here at RWT.
The post holder will be provided with expert clinical leadership and support from our established team and 2 Consultant Neurologists with specialist interest in Movement Disorders. The Department of Neurology views its staff as its most important asset. As such, you will be supported with induction, training and advanced educational opportunities. We will use approved competencies to help you to develop a clear career pathway towards expert practice.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of neurological services throughout the Trust. You will be expected to exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and to make critical judgements using specialist knowledge; you will provide the highest standard of holistic patient care for patients with Parkinson's Disease.
You will be responsible for the organisation and management of your own workload, under the supervision and guidance of the service lead. You will be expected to undertake clinics in various locations throughout Wolverhampton, Telford and Shropshire, adapting and prioritising as necessary, as well as undertaking reviews of patients admitted into New Cross Hospital. Current clinic sites are in Cannock, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury and Telford.
Applicants should be highly motivated, dynamic and will play a pivotal role in neurology nursing service development, in line with national guidance. The successful candidate will work with the wider multi-disciplinary team for the benefit of people with Parkinson's Disease and Atypical Parkinson's conditions.
The post will require you to run and maintain nurse-led clinics independently. You will have responsibility for assessing patients and subsequently devising, implementing and assessing an individual's comprehensive Parkinson's Disease care plan.
