About the role
BSI is seeking a Head of Indirect Tax to lead the global indirect tax strategy, governance, and compliance agenda across the organisation.

Reporting to the Group Tax Director, this role has end-to-end accountability for managing indirect tax risks and opportunities across BSI’s international footprint. You will shape and implement a global indirect tax strategy that supports compliance, enables business growth, and aligns with BSI’s finance transformation and ERP implementation.

This is a highly influential role, operating at senior leadership level, combining technical expertise with strategic leadership and the ability to drive change across a complex, multinational organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Own and lead all aspects of Indirect Tax globally, including strategy, governance, compliance, and risk management.

Develop and implement a global indirect tax operating model, balancing internal capability, technology, and support from external Global Tax Advisers.

Lead the evolution of indirect tax processes pre- and post-ERP implementation, maximising automation and reducing manual intervention.

Establish and maintain a robust indirect tax control framework, risk register, and governance protocols.

Support and advise finance teams and business leaders on complex indirect tax matters, including commercial and operational decisions.

Oversee indirect tax audits, investigations, and disputes globally, managing adviser input and negotiating outcomes in line with Group authority levels.

Identify and implement indirect tax planning opportunities while minimising tax risk.

Monitor global indirect tax developments and assess potential impacts on BSI.

Drive continuous improvement in compliance processes, systems, and data quality.

Provide leadership across the finance community, influencing without direct line management responsibility.

ERP & Finance Transformation

Ensure indirect tax requirements are fully embedded within the ERP design and implementation.

Enable accurate, automated indirect tax reporting across jurisdictions.

Partner with Finance, Technology, and external advisers to deliver scalable, future-ready tax processes.

To be successful in the role, you will have

Significant experience managing indirect tax across multiple jurisdictions within a large international organisation.

CTA qualification or equivalent, with hands‑on experience reviewing and filing large, complex indirect tax returns.

Strong technical knowledge of global VAT/GST and indirect tax compliance requirements.

Experience operating at senior leadership level, with the confidence to influence and challenge stakeholders.

A strong track record of driving change, improving controls, and implementing technology-enabled solutions; recent ERP and/or tax engine implementation experience would be beneficial.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax matters into clear business advice.

A pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset with strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
