Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced and enthusiastic Depot Manager to join our successful team at JD Sports based at our southern delivery out base in Dunstable.
The Depot Manager will have the accountability of the safe and compliant operation at Dunstable reporting to the National Operations Manager. Leading a management team of 9 and responsible for 75 warehouse and driver colleagues, to deliver circa 40,000 containers per week. Delivering best in class whilst ensuring an optimum and efficient cost base and legal compliance.
Duties and responsibilities:
1. To ensure the operation achieves targeted daily and weekly KPIs, through effective use of the planning / scheduling information available, providing a first-class service to the customer within budget
2. Build and maintain an effective customer relationship; ensuring that service is consistently meeting the customers’ requirements, in line with the Service Level Agreements, through optimising resource management, technology, fleet utilisation and colleague engagement.
3. Giving direction and monitoring performance, ensuring the site runs efficiently and effectively with direct responsibility for the transport and warehouse cross-dock activities on site.
4. Ensure effective communication throughout the operational leadership team.
5. Ensuring all activities meet the Wincanton standard for Health, Safety, and the Environment, driving contribution to the safety culture.
6. Develop an engaged, high-performance team culture – where growth mindset is prevalent.
7. To ensure the operation is fully compliant with all legislation.
8. Assisting in leading and developing a culture of continuous improvement to drive best-in-class activity and operational excellence, in line with performance objectives.
9. Ensure the team are working towards all relevant policies and procedures.
Experience, Skills, and Attributes:
10. Experience within a fast-paced and pressurised operational environment, working to tight deadlines on your own initiative.
11. Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
12. Well organised with the ability to prioritise tasks accordingly.
13. Attention to detail, driven by continual improvement and high standards.
14. Ability to develop your team, ensuring that they are well informed and well-motivated and managed effectively to achieve their personal goals as well as their operational KPI’s.
15. Understanding of drivers working time directive and EU regulations.
16. A positive and flexible attitude to work being reliable and punctual.
17. Excellent computer skills, specifically MS Office applications and knowledge of Transport Management Systems.
18. National and International CPC holder
19. Experience of managing a team, including welfare, disciplinary and grievances.
20. Demonstrable knowledge of transport legislation.
21. Numerate, with experience of delivering targets within budgetary constraints.
