About Oxfam
Oxfam is a global movement of people working together to end the injustice of poverty. That means we tackle the inequality that keeps people poor. Together we save, protect and rebuild lives. When disaster strikes, we help people build better lives for themselves and for others. We take on issues such as land rights, climate change, and discrimination against women. And we won’t stop until every person on the planet can enjoy life free from poverty.
About Our Oxfam Shops
Open for business since 1948, Oxfam shops are at the heart of the charity and their community, raising vital funds and increasing public awareness of what we do. They are always guided by our values of empowerment, accountability and inclusiveness and focused on making as much money as possible.
The Role of Shop Managers
Commercially aware and constantly looking for new business opportunities, shop managers motivate their teams and create a safe and energised work environment. They have high standards, a strong drive to achieve results and are accountable for their business. The role is empowered, varied, busy and gives the opportunity to work with some amazing people. Shop managers are pivotal for the success of our business and can make a real difference. Oxfam operates a volunteer model, in which volunteers are empowered to take over most of the tasks within the shop, including running the shop in the manager’s absence. Often the only paid member of staff, managers are comfortable in this environment, enjoy working with others and delegate to their teams. Excellent communicators, they are creative and always look for opportunities to attract new supporters every day.
Values and Commitment to Safeguarding
Oxfam is committed to preventing any type of unwanted behaviour at work, including sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse, lack of integrity and financial misconduct, and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults. All staff and volunteers share this commitment through our code of conduct. We place a high priority on ensuring that only those who share and demonstrate our values are recruited to work for us. We are committed to ensuring diversity and gender equality within our organization and encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply.
