SEND Teaching Assistant – Early Years & KS1 ASD Support

Location: Croydon, South London
Start Date: 7th July 2025
Contract: Temporary (7th–18th July) - with potential for a long-term role in September
Salary: Competitive (based on experience and qualifications)
Working Hours: Full-time (school hours)

Every gesture matters. Every voice, even pre-verbal, has a story.

GSL Education London are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a warm and inclusive primary school in Croydon, supporting a group of 10 students from Reception and Key Stage 1 within a specialised ASD intervention space.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully in a setting that prioritises empathy, patience, and understanding—working with children with complex needs, many of whom are pre-verbal and require support beyond the classroom.

About the Role:

Support a small group of Reception and KS1 children with ASD and complex communication needs.

Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions in a purpose-built space designed to meet the sensory and emotional needs of learners.

Assist with light personal care (e.g., helping with redressing or wiping—no nappies).

Initially from 7th to 18th July, with strong potential to continue into a long-term role in September.

Who We’re Looking For:

Experience in EYFS or SEND settings is essential.

Applicants with personal experience (e.g., supporting a family member with communication needs) are strongly encouraged to apply.

A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting children with ASD and pre-verbal communication.

Team players who value collaboration and contribute positively to school culture.

What You’ll Gain:

The opportunity to make a tangible impact in the lives of children who need stability and understanding.

Supportive colleagues and leadership who value your role and growth.

A possible pathway to a long-term SEND Teaching Assistant role in September.

A rewarding and meaningful professional experience.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and all successful applicants must undergo all necessary pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply for one.

If you're ready to support, nurture, and empower children with complex needs, click ‘apply now’ to express your interest. A dedicated consultant will be in touch to support you through the next steps.
