Manufacturing Technician – Laser Department
Location: Glasgow
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Land and Air Systems (LAS) Optronic business unit as a manufacturing technician. In this role you will work closely with existing team members, the Work Cell Manager and Manufacturing Engineers in delivering the outputs from the relevant work cell as per the business requirements. The role is based at our Glasgow manufacturing site. You will work a 4‑day week Monday to Thursday with 9.25 hours per day. Start time is flexible between 6:00 am and 7:30 am and you receive 30 minutes unpaid lunch. There is free on‑site parking and a canteen.
The role
* Perform manufacturing operations in accordance with the associated documentation provided and ISO 9001 quality standards in a timely and professional manner.
* Adhere to defined company processes when carrying out all tasks.
* Laser technician – build and test opto‑mechanical and electrical systems.
* Assemble and test laser production products, including optics/laser alignment, fault finding, environmental testing and laser ranging.
* Build advanced laser product sub‑assemblies.
* Setup and use complex electro‑optical tooling and test equipment.
* Knowledge of calibration, ESD, optical handling and quality control.
* Ability to read mechanical, optical and electrical drawings.
* Work in class 6 cleanroom standards.
* Strong analytical and diagnostic skills and ability to work as part of a team.
* Support continuous improvement actions within the industry.
* Manage and record build configuration of product.
* Familiar with ERP MRP system (Oracle or similar).
About You
* Experience working in an industrial/engineering environment.
* Ability to read and understand mechanical, optical and electrical drawings.
* High‑standard assembly and testing of products.
* Understanding of manufacturing processes.
* Focused on meeting deadlines with good time‑management and prioritisation skills.
* Initiative and ability to work independently when required.
* Team‑player attitude.
* Basic PC skills.
Desirable
* Proven experience working to IPC 610, IPC 620 and J‑STD‑001 standards.
