About Us
We have a vacancy for a Cleaner to join our fantastic and friendly team in our lovely school. We are a small rural Church of England School at the foot of the South Downs.
The building consists of 3 large classrooms, 1 smaller classroom, a central hall, staff room and offices and toilet blocks and cloakrooms for the Juniors and Infants.
This role is Monday to Friday, 3 hours per day: 15 hours per week
As our school is entering into a Partnership, there may be future scope for this role to develop across 2 schools within close proximity and with similar hours.
There is some flexibility with how the daily hours are organised.
Job Details
Grade: This appointment is NJC Grade 2
Full time salary: £24,413 to £24,796. Please note salary will be pro rata.
Contract Type: Permanent, Part time
Working Pattern: This role is Monday to Friday, 3 hours per day: 15 hours per week
Interviews: 30/09/25. These will be held between either at 9:00 to 10:00am, or 13:00 to 14:00pm, or 15:30 to 16:30pm
The School cleaner will work independently perform a variety of regular and one-off cleaning tasks and duties as directed by the Headteacher or School Business Manager
Main Responsibilities
Be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of all internal areas of school and for maintaining high and consistent standards:
* Hovering all carpeted floors: daily
* Wiping of all tables in classrooms: daily
* Cleaning sinks and toilets in all cloakrooms: daily
* Washing of cloakroom floors: daily
* Washing hard floor areas in classrooms: over a weekly cycle
* Maintaining hall floor / polishing : Once every 2 weeks on a Friday *
* Cleaning of other surfaces to keep dust free / clean: over a weekly cycle
Take initiative to perform cleaning tasks that are not specifically contained within the usual list of cleaning requirements, but require attention as part of maintaining overall high standards: e.g., sweeping leaves at the front door.
Liaise with School Business to ensure cleaning supply requirements and stock levels are maintained and orders are timely.
Ensure Health & Safety, quality and general procedure compliance meet standards.
Be vigilant and report any Health and Safety concerns and issues to the school business manager.
To ensure that if the last to leave school, the final secure checks for doors and windows are made and the alarm set to ensure the school is secure.
Complete 5 + days of extra deep cleaning over the school holidays (days by negotiation with the Head). This will always be communicated with good notice and a time agreed between the Headteacher and Cleaner.
