The Global Biodata Coalition (GBC) brings together leading international funders in biomedical and life sciences research to secure the long-term sustainability of the world’s most essential biodata resources. Hosted by EMBL-EBI and supported by a new five-year European Commission grant, GBC operates at the intersection of science, policy, and global collaboration. We are looking for a pro-active, creative Communications Officer with a passion for life sciences to help tell GBC’s story, engage stakeholders worldwide, and amplify the impact of our mission. Your role As Communications Officer, you’ll be a central member of the GBC team and will shape how GBC is seen and heard across digital platforms, events, and international stakeholder communities. This is an opportunity to combine strategic communications, hands-on content creation, and global scientific impact in a small, highly engaged, and internationally distributed team. Reporting to the GBC Programme Manager, you will: Own and evolve the GBC brand, creating digital assets and clear brand guidelines Build and manage GBC’s social media presence, including planning, analytics, and reporting Write high-quality, engaging content for news articles, press releases, newsletters, and publications Develop and maintain slide decks and engagement materials for use by the GBC team Lead the development of the GBC website, ensuring it inspires and informs diverse audiences Plan and deliver outreach and communications campaigns around key GBC initiatives Produce tailored materials such as briefings, memos, fact sheets, letters, and presentations for specific stakeholders Support the planning and delivery of stakeholder meetings and communications events Advise and support the leadership team on communications activities Evaluate communications performance and report on the impact of campaigns You have At least 3 years’ experience in communications or public relations Proven experience in life sciences communications Strong social media expertise, including analytics and reporting An exceptional ability to craft clear, compelling content for diverse audiences Self-motivation, with the ability to plan and deliver work independently A genuine passion for science and technology Excellent written and spoken English A collaborative, professional approach with strong relationship-building skills Outstanding organisational and time-management abilities Comfortable working in a hybrid and geographically distributed team A communicator who listens actively and makes others feel heard You may also have Experience using generative-AI tools Experience of website, search engine optimisation and AI search Knowledge of French, German, Italian or Spanish Experience in event organisation Experience of creating digital and social media assets using industry standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and Figma Excellent media handling skills and experience liaising with journalists Contract length: Project limited contract until the end of November 2030. Salary: Grade 5, monthly salary from £3,303.40 after tax plus benefits but excl. pension and insurance contributions.
