MERITUS are recruiting for a Mechanical Quality Inspector to join our Maritime client in a permanent position within their Manufacturing team.
MECHANICAL QUALITY INSPECTOR - £40,000 + OVERTIME - YATELEY, HAMPSHIRE - 1 STAGE INTERVIEW PROCESS
We are supporting a precision engineering environment seeking a Quality Inspector to carry out inspection and verification of mechanical components and assemblies. This role sits within a regulated manufacturing setting where accuracy to engineering drawings, quality compliance, and traceability are critical.
The position requires strong hands-on inspection capability, with a particular emphasis on CMM inspection using Aberlink systems, alongside the ability to interface with internal engineering teams and external suppliers to resolve quality issues.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform detailed inspection of mechanical parts and assemblies from both internal manufacturing and external suppliers using conventional inspection tools and 3-axis CMM equipment (Aberlink), including program creation and editing.
* Coordinate the verification of machined components, ensuring all items meet specification and are compliant with engineering drawings.
* Identify and document non-conformance's, escalating issues through internal reporting systems to ensure timely resolution.
* Conduct additional testing activities where required, including PMI testing and chemical etching.
* Support supplier quality activities, including communication around non-conformance and participation in supplier audits/visits where necessary.
* Verify that all materials and components are accompanied by correct certification and documentation.
* Inspect assemblies (e.g. coils, cables, battery packs), ensuring correct labelling, assembly integrity, and absence of visual defects.
* Work with design and development teams during prototype inspection to support issue resolution.
* Manage and prioritise inspection activities across internal production and external supply chain demands.
* Maintain inspection equipment, ensuring calibration is current and compliant with quality requirements.
* Accurately record inspection outcomes and maintain quality records within internal systems, including the generation of rejection documentation.
* Ensure all inspection tools and equipment are correctly identified and maintained within calibration schedules.
* Adhere to all health & safety regulations and promote a safety-first culture at all times.
Knowledge, Skills & ExperienceEssential
* Proven experience in mechanical inspection within an engineering/manufacturing environment.
* Proficiency in using Aberlink CMM systems (manual and/or CNC), including programming capability.
* Strong understanding of inspection techniques for precision machined components.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings and verify components against specification.
* Competent with standard IT systems (e.g. Microsoft Office).
Desirable
* Experience inspecting components used in pressure-containing or high-integrity environments.
* Awareness of electrostatic discharge (ESD) requirements when handling assemblies.
Qualifications
* GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
Additional Requirements
* Ability to carry out manual handling tasks (up to 25kg, with lifting support where required).
* Good manual dexterity for detailed inspection work.
