Science Technician - Secondary School Location: Birmingham Start Date: September 2025 Contract Type: Full-Time (Term Time Only) Salary: Competitive, based on experience Monarch Education is working with a secondary school in Birmingham to recruit a reliable and experienced Science Technician to join their team from September 2025. This is a full-time position, supporting the school's science department in delivering high-quality practical lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4. This role would suit someone with a strong science background, good organisational skills, and previous experience working in a school laboratory setting. Job Description: As a Science Technician, you will work closely with teaching staff to support the delivery of engaging and safe science lessons. Your responsibilities will include: Preparing and setting up equipment and materials for practical experiments in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Maintaining and organising laboratory equipment, ensuring that all materials are stored correctly and safely. Supporting teaching staff during practical lessons and demonstrations where required. Ensuring that health and safety procedures are followed in line with school policies and risk assessments. Assisting in the preparation and ordering of stock and materials. Managing chemical storage, disposal, and inventory in accordance with COSHH regulations. Keeping prep rooms and laboratories clean, organised, and fully stocked. Requirements: Previous experience working as a Science Technician in a school or laboratory environment is preferred. A strong understanding of science subjects and lab safety, including COSHH and general risk assessments. Good organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively across multiple tasks. Confidence in handling chemicals, lab equipment, and assisting with practical demonstrations. A proactive and flexible attitude to work, with the ability to support both staff and students.
