Production Manager

Alexander Steele is supporting a growing Food Manufacturing business in their search for a Production Manager. The Production Manager will lead day‑to‑day manufacturing operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost‑effective production. The role focuses on delivering high standards of food safety, quality, and operational performance while driving a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, support, and develop production teams to achieve daily targets safely and efficiently.
* Convert production plans into effective shift and line schedules, ensuring resources are used optimally.
* Foster a positive, accountable, and improvement‑focused culture across the production area.
* Monitor and report on key performance indicators such as efficiency, waste, downtime, and labour use.
* Ensure all production activity meets required food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
* Work closely with Quality and Technical teams to uphold hygiene, allergen control, traceability, and GMP.
* Support investigations into issues or non‑conformances and ensure corrective actions are completed.
* Promote and maintain high standards of Health & Safety across all shifts.
* Drive efficiency improvements through planning, problem‑solving, and process optimisation.
* Lead daily production meetings and provide clear updates on performance and actions.
* Collaborate with Planning, Supply Chain, and Engineering to maintain smooth operational flow.
* Identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve output and overall factory performance.
* Support the introduction of new equipment, processes, and automation initiatives.
* Recruit, train, and develop production supervisors and operatives.
Experience
* Experience in a Production Manager or senior supervisory role within food manufacturing or FMCG.
* Strong understanding of food safety and quality requirements.
* Proven leadership and people‑management skills.
* Ability to manage KPIs and production reporting systems.
* Good working knowledge of Health & Safety practices.
* Strong planning, organisational, and decision‑making skills.
* Hands‑on, adaptable, and able to perform under pressure.
