Following recent Welsh Government investment, we have several vacancies for registered nurses interested in working in HM Prison Cardiff. The prison is a remand centre serving SE Wales courts, with a capacity for 800 men.
Successful candidates will join a recently expanded multidisciplinary team to provide healthcare to prisoners with diverse mental and physical health issues, including substance misuse. We are particularly interested in applicants with skills in primary care, acute or emergency medicine, and mental health.
The role involves organizing admissions and discharges, assessing, planning, and evaluating care. It requires close collaboration with other MDT members to deliver holistic, person-centred care, considering ongoing support needs post-release. There are opportunities to work with various partners within the Prison Service and community services, contribute to healthcare service planning, and participate in training and educational programs.
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to work autonomously with patients with complex needs, applying evidence-based and patient-centred principles. Excellent communication skills are essential for discussing sensitive information related to prisoner health, and emotional resilience is vital due to the environment's demands.
Welsh language skills are desirable but not mandatory; both English and Welsh speakers are encouraged to apply.
