Job Overview Brentwood Senior School is an academically selective HMC co-educational independent school with small class sizes and a happy, ambitious and supportive staff team. It is part of Brentwood School, a 3-18 HMC school of 1900 pupils, just 20 minutes from London Liverpool Street. We are seeking a passionate and ambitious graduate to join our thriving Chemistry Department and train to teach in a highly supportive and dynamic environment. This full-time, permanent role offers full PGCE sponsorship through the University of Buckingham, an attractive salary, and structured training towards QTS. This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate or unqualified teacher to work as an unqualified Teacher of Chemistry for two terms, before undertaking a PGCE through Buckingham University. The PGCE would run from September 2026 to July 2027. Initially this would be a five-term fixed-term contract, with the hope that a permanent position would be available for September 2027. Brentwood School is a vibrant and inclusive community, where staff and students are ambitious, supportive, and united by a shared love of learning. The successful candidate will teach Chemistry at Key Stage 3, IGCSE and A Level and will join a thriving Chemistry Department. Chemistry is a very popular choice of subject with pupils: we offer the Pearson IGCSE Chemistry and Double Award Science courses, and AQA A Level and IB Sixth Form courses. Brentwood School ethos We embody our values of virtue, learning and manners just as those before us have been doing since 1557. We are proud of our modern inclusive community which is shaped by our Christian Foundation. At Brentwood we ask ‘how is this child intelligent?’ (rather than ‘how intelligent is this child?’) and believe that finding what it is that makes someone tick is the secret to a successful education and the platform for a fulfilled life. Our pupils are confident without being arrogant, they look out for each other, they do the right thing, even when no-one is looking and they respect difference. We help our pupils to solve problems. In partnership with parents, we teach them to persevere after setbacks, adopt a growth mindset, and challenge the norm. We encourage them to ask questions in class and take control of their own learning. Of course, they work hard and enjoy great success in and out of the classroom, and once they’ve left us, many go on to use and develop their leadership skills and achieve beyond their expectations, always remembering what Brentwood has taught them. That’s What Makes Us Brentwood. We are a highly supportive school that values the contributions made by a motivated and intellectually curious staff. Staff across both the Prep and Senior School enjoy a bespoke collaborative approach to professional development. We believe in being a research engaged school, with those that facilitate our in-house research programme being trained by the Institute of Education. We support many of our staff in obtaining external accreditation across a range of fields and are engaged with a number of national and international organisations. There are a range of ways that we enhance our staff experience; free gym membership, benefits hub, free lunch, free tickets to school concerts and performance to name but a few. Brentwood School has its own pay scale that is significantly above the maintained sector.
