Our client is an independent consultancy providing high-quality, traditional Clerks of Works and site inspection services to private and public sector clients, including housing associations and the NHS.
About the role
As a Clerk of Works, also known as a Site Inspector or Building Quality Officer, you will ensure that construction work meets the client’s standards, specifications, and schedule. Your role involves detailed inspections throughout the building process to verify compliance with contract documents and best practices.
Responsibilities include:
1. Monitoring progress against the client’s programme and providing an independent contract review.
2. Reviewing drawings to ensure construction aligns with plans and addressing discrepancies.
3. Witnessing and recording tests, inspections, and commissioning activities.
4. Conducting site visits either full-time or regularly on a weekly basis.
5. Ensuring value for money and impartiality to prevent issues.
6. Acting as the client’s eyes on site to anticipate and prevent problems.
7. Maintaining communication with clients and design teams through meetings and reports.
8. Traveling across Yorkshire and occasionally to Manchester and Lancashire for site visits.
About you
To succeed, you should have:
1. A broad understanding of the building industry, including materials, trades, and legal requirements.
2. Knowledge of various construction methods.
3. Excellent IT skills (Word, Outlook, PDF) and experience using tablets on site.
4. Own vehicle (essential).
5. Membership of ICWCI (desirable).
6. An up-to-date CSCS card.
7. Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
Salary and benefits
The role is for 30 hours per week over 4 days, with no weekend work. The salary ranges from £28,860 to £30,500, depending on experience. Benefits include:
