We are looking for a skilled and motivated ILS Engineer on a Contractor-basis (inside IR35), based at our Gateshead site with a hybrid 3 days in office and 2 days from home arrangement. This role supports logistics and sustainment activities for naval programmes, working with multidisciplinary teams to manage ILS content and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
Responsibilities include:
1. Reviewing customer ILS requirements and supporting sales and estimating during bids.
2. Acting as reliability and maintainability focal within the engineering team.
3. Developing ILS strategies for effective planning, resourcing, and implementation.
4. Creating and managing system reliability analysis data and documentation (FMECA, MTBF/MTTR, RBD/FTA, spare parts, life cycle cost estimation).
5. Managing NATO Codification activities per contract scope.
6. Preparing supportability documentation such as Supportability Case Reports, Availability, Reliability and Maintainability Reports, maintenance manuals, and training materials.
7. Liaising with customers and third-party ILS specialists.
8. Performing additional tasks as delegated by the Engineering Manager.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Degree or HND/HNC with relevant practical experience, preferably with a naval/marine background.
* Experience with systems engineering processes, product development, and through-life support.
* Knowledge of ILS standards like Def Stan 00-600, ASD S3000L, JSP 886, Def Con 117, and understanding of customer environments.
* Experience with ASD S1000D technical publications.
* Familiarity with NATO Codification and spares modelling.
* Proficiency with ReliaSoft XFMEA, BlockSim, or similar reliability software.
* Strong communication skills and ability to interact with stakeholders.
* Flexibility and adaptability to changing requirements.
* Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas.
