We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals who want to develop their career within the Medical Imaging Department of a busy District General Hospital in the role of an Assistant Practitioner.
We welcome applications from accredited Assistant Practitioners, already working within a Diagnostic Medical Imaging Department or other clinical areas, and also individuals with an equivalent level of qualification who are keen to gain hands-on experience in imaging.
The post will provide the opportunity to develop your clinical skills in one or more imaging modalities including CT, MRI, and plain film radiography.
You will be joining a friendly and welcoming team and will be working together to provide a high-quality, responsive diagnostic service and deliver excellent patient care in line with the Trust's core values. You will be expected to maintain high clinical standards, but above all, patients must be at the forefront of your practice.
Main duties of the job
To perform a range of radiographic procedures as detailed in the scheme of work within the main department under the supervision of a qualified radiographer.
To ensure all requests are justified and authorised by a radiographer as per departmental protocol and to refer requests which do not adhere to policy to a senior radiographer or consultant radiologist.
To perform the initial radiographic assessment of the radiographic images and to refer urgent conditions for a radiological or clinical opinion prior to the patient leaving the department.
Responsible for providing an effective radiography service liaising with wards and departments at all times to prioritise workload and demand according to patients' clinical urgency.
You must have excellent communication and organisational skills, a commitment to CPD, and a basic practical knowledge of radiation protection, legislation, and health and safety requirements.
We operate a 7-day service covered by a shift system; there is no requirement to work night shifts within this role but weekends are included.
A flexible approach to working will be required, and the applicant will be required to work at both the hospital trust site and also at the community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in the town centre.
