Job Description
The Failsafe Officer is responsible for overseeing quality assurance processes related to patient management, from front-end registration to database validation and cleansing.
Failsafe is crucial for safeguarding Diabetic Eye Screening Programme patients as they navigate the complex diabetic eye screening care pathway. The role involves escalating concerns or omissions to local DESP managers according to policies and procedures, through ongoing data audits, list validations, and stakeholder liaising, ensuring compliance through regular audits.
* Creation, editing, and maintenance of clinical locations and appointment schedules to ensure all eligible patients are screened per NDESP guidelines.
* Provide telephone support for patients regarding appointments, including booking, rescheduling, and cancellations as per programme requirements.
* Validation and cleansing of the collated patient list.
* Oversee the patient cohort to ensure all are accounted for and regularly audited (e.g., opted out, medically unfit, not diabetic, pregnant). Liaise with GPs, practice nurses, diabetologists, obstetricians, paediatricians, and administrative teams involved in patient care.
* Coordinate with key stakeholders to ensure patients are in the correct care pathway, supported by systematic auditing and tracking.
* Collaborate with Hospital Eye Services to ensure referred patients receive initial appointments within NDESP criteria and track their status, ensuring they return to DESP care after hospital discharge.
Qualifications
* Excellent IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Strong organizational and administrative skills with project management experience.
* Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, solve problems, and maintain effectiveness under pressure.
* Minimum of 2 GCSEs (Grades A-C) in English and Maths or equivalent.
* Successful candidates will undergo a standard DBS check upon hiring and every 3 years thereafter.
