Overview

An elderly lady from Brechfa requires a Personal Assistant for 5 hours per week to accompany her to appointments and local events and attractions to encourage and enable more social interaction. This will help with her physical exercise. Must have own car to drive her to the activities, etc., and will be reimbursed up to 20 miles per week at 45p per mile.


Responsibilities

* Accompanying the employer to appointments and local events and attractions.
* Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence.
* Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills.
* To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with them and providing them with social interaction.
* Encouraging the employer to attend appointments.
* Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during working hours.
* Carrying out any other reasonable tasks requested by the employer during working hours.
* Ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act.
* Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on (01267 228751).
* Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.


Relationships & Communication

* Ability to develop a supportive and caring relationship with the employer.
* Undertake all duties in a friendly and helpful manner.
* Able to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary.


Job Working Environment

Working in the employer’s home and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.


Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills

* Caring, patient and friendly.
* Responsible, reliable and honest.
* Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative.
* Good local knowledge of the area where the employer lives.
* Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer’s requirements.
* Ability to keep simple records such as time recording.
* Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.
* Able to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.
* A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is essential. This is determined by the needs of the employer and whether you live within walking distance.
* You must be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
* Be prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employer’s needs.


DBS

A Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) / criminal record check will be undertaken for this post. This will be completed on acceptance of the job offer.
