The Client
Our client is an international law firm with a globally integrated investment funds practice. It has a well hedged GP and LP investor practice covering the full remit of asset classes, but with particular focus in real estate, private equity, venture capital and increasingly credit funds.
Growing Practice
The practice is growing quickly and winning a significant volume of new mandates. Two partners have been made up internally in the past two years and there is a real backing from the wider firm to invest in growth, making it an incredibly exciting time to join.
GP clients range from smaller mid-market funds right through to some of the biggest names in the market, plus there is a significant (and leading) investor practice.
Diverse Work and Enhanced Exposure
You will work across all partners, allowing exposure to a diverse range of work and styles. This is great if you are feeling too pigeon-holed currently, or not getting access to the breadth or quality of work you need to advance. In saying this, a skillset in GP fundraisings is very useful as this will be a focus of the role.
You will almost certainly have more client facing time and be given opportunities to assume more responsibility on managing projects and also internally mentoring juniors in the team.
Life at the Firm
This is an excellent option for work-life balance, while maintaining top work quality and entering a team with a less obstructed path to progress. There is a 50/50 split between working in-office and WFH, allowing greater flexibility for candidates with families, or those residing outside of London. There is also options to work from other offices internationally, as required.
You can do very well in this team in and around 1600-1800 hours (although further performance is also financially incentivised) and your wellbeing is genuinely prioritised. Salaries are highly competitive, with one of the best bonus structures in the city.
The partners in this team are very personable and while ambitious, take a pragmatic approach to sustainably developing associates and creating a welcoming and inclusive culture.
About You
The PQE guide is 4+ PQE, with the opportunity to secure a Senior Associate title, although superb candidates who are more junior, or more senior, will also be considered. You will most likely have experience in a well regarded London investment funds team, although experience in other jurisdictions can also be helpful e.g. Luxembourg, Hong Kong etc.
In terms of process, the partners are happy to meet for a coffee in an informal setting as a first stage. They speak very eloquently about the practice and their desire to continue growing the market share.
