Job Description
We are seeking a Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. You will lead a dispersed team and be the strategic lead for managing financial investigations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). You will be proactive with a focus on continually improving how we work.
You will manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer. You will provide strong leadership, motivate and develop your team, and manage performance and delivery. This role requires collaboration with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC). You will influence at senior levels to ensure EA priorities are supported and recognised by other enforcement agencies.
Alongside ECU responsibilities, you will support the wider organisation in improving our processes and increasing understanding of POCA. You will share lessons learnt, contribute to changes in technical documentation, and advise other enforcement officers nationwide.
The team
The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams – the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team, made up of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and works with enforcement staff and partners across the country to tackle serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Responsibilities
* Provide exceptional leadership to a dispersed team and develop capability of the team and individuals.
* Lead strategic execution of financial investigations under POCA and ensure compliance with legal obligations.
* Collaborate with internal and external partners and stakeholders, influencing at senior levels.
* Share lessons learned and contribute to changes in technical documentation and enforcement practices.
* Support the wider organisation in continuous improvement and POCA understanding.
Experience/Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
* Experience in: working in law enforcement; understanding the National Intelligence Model; effective communication including feedback, performance management, and relationship-building with external stakeholders; working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload; identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices; developing and enhancing team and individual capabilities.
Contact and Additional Information
This is a hybrid working role; you’ll work from home and a nearest office with travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is part of the role and you may be required to respond to incidents, which may attract additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments are available to support you.
